Helen Lei, Family Wellness Consultation

Helen Lei, Ph.D., is a first generation Chinese American who moved from Taiwan to America in 1977. She attended high school and college in Boulder, Colorado, earning both B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Communications and M.S. in Counseling from University of Colorado Boulder. Dr. Lei moved to the Bay Area in 1989. She completed her Doctoral Clinical Psychology at Alliant University in 1999 with her doctoral dissertation, “The Impacts of Parental Separation on Taiwanese Adolescent students studying in the United States”. She received the Theodore Fong Human Service Award in 1992. Dr. Lei completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Mills College Counseling Center and her postdoctoral internship at Santa Clara County Mental Health Department. In her 27 years at AACI, Dr. Lei is specializing in evidence-based CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) counseling and Family System therapy to provide services in both English and Chinese students and their families: including assessments, treatment planning, ongoing therapy, short-term counseling, and crisis interventions, parenting education and support groups. Dr. Lei has strong collaboration skills in working with schools and communities’ mental health agencies. Furthermore, she also has expertise in coordinating and facilitating clinical consultation and case conferences. Since spring semester of 2015, Dr. Lei has provided evening clinic and “parent/support classes” in Mandarin Chinese at Palo Alto School District. The community has shown positive response to the cultural-sensitive mental health services provided by Dr. Lei. In May 2016, Dr. Lei was honored by NBC Bay area at Asian Pacific American Heritage Month luncheon for her outstanding work in providing culturally competent community counseling and parenting education.
